Note Famous Painter Sultana Souroujon was born in Bulgaria. She studied in the Academy of Art of Sophia in the years 1925-9. In 1938 She spent one year in Paris, where she participated in the Annual Salon Exhibition. Souroujon was the only Bulgarian artist that participated the exhibition.
In 1953 she immigrated to Israel, where she suffered economical hardship, although she participated regularly in the exhibitions of the Israeli Artists' Association. In 1965 the El-Harizi Artists' Home held an exhibition in her memory.
Souroujon was an important painter and she painted in the classical European style combined with modern trends, and she assimilated in the artistic European movement of the thirties. Her figure painting in Israel became more expressive and emotional; she gave up the classical style altogether.
